Cobalt / 30 Degrees (Closed Permanently)

(422 Ratings)
Hip lounge downstairs, dance club upstairs, special theme nights
Cobalt is a 17th St mainstay, anchoring DC's gayest street. Cobalt recently renovated interior creates a new sophisticated downstairs lounge while maintaining the pulsating upstairs dance floor. The kinda place you can meet for cocktails and conversation and then, if the mood strikes, take it upstairs for a wilder night out.

Doesn't go with the flow

I've tried to figure out how the bar works, but as other's have mentioned, you end up getting kind of trapped on a level, with poor circulation, and not a good view. I'd hate to be there if there was a fire. Bartenders friendly, and on one of the party nights I'm sure it's fun, but the bar had an unfortunate problem with the more it gets packed, the less fun it was because of... the flow - you simply can't circulate easily. Not sure it's worth a visit.

Empty + Cover... skip

I refuse to pay a cover to go to an empty sad-clown gay bar. Sorry, but maybe if you get people in the door first, I might be willing to pay for the privilege of paying for drinks at your bar.

Great Bar...lots of Steps!

I enjoyed Cobalt very much while I was vacationing in Washington. It has three levels so be careful while drinking and managing those stairs and your drinks! The decor was nice and the bar was very clean and well kept. Check the local gay publications for drink specials and events at Cobalt.

A definite stop for gay travellers

A very nice, hip bar with tons of cuties to watch. The bar itself is very relaxed and inviting. Stand and mingle with the crowd. Upstairs is a lounge that appears out of nowhere and you can shake your ass as the crowd moves from the bar downstairs to the dance floor upstairs. Place is a definite stop if your not from D.C. and the crowd is much younger than expected which is great for college kids without feeling awkward like me and my friend. Super friendly crowd with no attitude and hunky bartenders always willing to serve a drink with a fantastic smile.

aZen night for asians

They do an asian night on the second saturdays of every month. Lots of cute asians in their 20s show up. Some asians are sticky but some are friendly to whites too. Of you lkke asians this is the place to be on second saturdays
