WOMEN'S MARCH ON WASHINGTON- JANUARY 21st, 2017
OFFICIAL STATEMENT, National Organizers
On January 21, 2017 we will unite in Washington, DC for the Women’s March on Washington. We stand together in solidarity with our partners and children for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families -- recognizing that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of our country.
The rhetoric of the past election cycle has insulted, demonized, and threatened many of us--women, immigrants of all statuses, those with diverse religious faiths particularly Muslim, people who identify as LGBTQIA, Native and Indigenous people, Black and Brown people, people with disabilities, the economically impoverished and survivors of sexual assault. We are confronted with the question of how to move forward in the face of national and international concern and fear.
In the spirit of democracy and honoring the champions of human rights, dignity, and justice who have come before us, we join in diversity to show our presence in numbers too great to ignore. The Women’s March on Washington will send a bold message to our new administration on their first day in office, and to the world that women's rights are human rights. We stand together, recognizing that defending the most marginalized among us is defending all of us.
We support the advocacy and resistance movements that reflect our multiple and intersecting identities. We call on all defenders of human rights to join us. This march is the first step towards unifying our communities, grounded in new relationships, to create change from the grassroots level up. We will not rest until women have parity and equity at all levels of leadership in society. We work peacefully while recognizing there is no true peace without justice and equity for all. HEAR OUR VOICE

UPDATE from the National Organizers for the DC march January 21st.
1. We have a strong and highly experienced team of women of color and diverse religions, including Muslim, co-creating and working on the march logistics. The permitting is in process and we have no reason to believe we will not get it. The process is complex dealing with several locations, the national park service and police groups. It is typical for a permit to take at least a month because permitting is a complex administrative task where we co-ordinate with the above groups. We do not need a permit to march but we need a permit to rally.
2. This is not a protest, this is a rally. The rally is planned from 10-1. The march is at 1.
3.We are not selling tickets. Unless your official state group is raising money, do not buy a ticket from any source. We spoke with Eventbrite today because tickets were illegally being sold. Now on Eventbrite is a FREE ticketing site. Please register here as it will help us with a true count on the march.
4. There is no official merchandise yet. Nothing being posted or pushed anywhere benefits us.
5. We have had large numbers of the national leadership of our most important advocates and women's organization reach out with support. We have been inundated with women artists and top female singers who want to march with us and entertain. We have a massive list and growing of incredible speakers who have reached out to us.
6. We have had some instances of women posting items of misinformation or personal beliefs that we do not endorse. We all feel anxious and scared and worried and things like this will happen. It is actually not a bad thing if it puts us in conversation with each other. But we all need to remember to breathe and respond instead of react.
7. Do not believe everything you read in the press. This is a dynamic group of very diverse women and we are working together and evolving this as we grow. Please join your state team, because we are replaceable but our strength lies in you. Please work hard to bring diversity to your state team. Everyone is welcome to this table. And believe me we have had some very difficult conversations driven by our beautiful and challenging diversity as we co-create this, working sometimes 24 hours a day to pull this together with you.
8. You are spontaneously laying the groundwork for us to begin to hear each other in a conversation that is incredible. My personal belief is calls for unity do not work until we hear each other, accept and understand our differences and have deep conversation on how to move forward. Please keep it growing!!!
If you find yourself here from another state, please find your State's chapter below. And we'll see you in DC.
