Historic progress has been made nationwide on marriage equality, but the inaugural Human Rights Campaign’s State Equality Index (SEI) reveals extraordinary state-to-state-disparities in LGBT non-discrimination protections in the workplace, healthcare, schools, adoption, and beyond. More than 111 million Americans live in states that have marriage equality, but lack fully-inclusive statewide LGBT non-discrimination protections. That means LGBT Americans and their families are being left behind, as a majority of states continue to struggle to reach even a basic level of equality for LGBT people.
That reality, as well as a review of LGBT-related bills, both good and bad, being considered this year by state legislatures, will be the topic of a panel discussion, and Q&A, at HRC’s Equality Center.
Panel Members:
Andrea Bowen, Garden State Equality | Andy Garcia, Equality Federation | Alison Gill, SEI author, HRC Senior Legislative Counsel
