Smack between the heavily gay P Street and U Street Corridors, nestled among a string of new boutique shopping places, this cozy yet elegant cafe serves first rate food in a terrific setting. Check out the huge wooden bar and the elegant tile floors. The sidewalk seating area, if you can get a table, is a great place to enjoy a warm summer evening. This is the best of DC, off the beaten track, in the middle of two of the funkiest, coolest strips in the city, where the ugliness of politics can seem far away even when it is always in the air. The grungy basement nightclub, Gate 54, is perfect for a nightcap and some great music.
