What we say
Special ultra-mod boutique hotel
Done in what it describes as "Hollywood Style," Hotel Helix is a unique and funky place to stay in D.C. Just as the Logan 'hood was undergoing a renaissance, the Kimpton chain took over this once dreary concrete hotel, and made it one of the coolest in the whole city, with a swanky, creative bar/lobby that is home to many gay events. The rooms themselves have been done over in campy/stylish mode and offer more space than most D.C. apartments. The rooms are are bright and pet-friendly, featuring an honor bar with tons of candy. In-room spa treatments available.

Loved my room with all the cute art deco and lights. But the girl serving the free wine was rude and snobbish and the security guy made a big deal about my bringing an ice cream from outside. Overpriced sunday breakfast buffet. Still a nice place to stay in at least once.

While not a fan of the decor, the Helix has everything one could want in terms of amenities. If leopard print robes are your thing, you'll leave happy.

I loved this hotel! Great room decor and whimsical honor bar in the room stocked with PEZ treats and wax lips! I disagree with the other reviewer -- I was there for over a week and the staff was nothing but friendly and cordial. I enjoyed the free wine reception on the patio and taking photos in the leopard and tiger striped robes that are provided in the rooms! Just a few blocks to Dupont Circle. You can't go wrong with the Kimpton chain of hotels.
