DC Trans Pool Party July 2017

Summer is almost here! The DC Trans Pool Party is an independent and public gathering to celebrate the beauty, diversity, and resilience of the trans community in Washington, DC. Our trans community has a lot to celebrate, and what better way to do so than a POOL PARTY??? While pools are traditionally not trans affirming or body positive spaces, we will join together to be visible and proud! We hope you can join us for this joyous gathering, to be in community and make some friends! Please come to fill this space with positive energy and our resilient trans selves. Non-transgender friends and allies are welcome to attend, but please keep in mind that this space is first and foremost intended for trans folks. *************************************************************** THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND: This gathering is an independent and non-organizationally affiliated event. DC Trans Pool Party is a visibility gathering with no formal program. We had a similar event last summer and it went super well! We are once again reaching out to the pool to make them aware that a large group of trans and queer folks will be attending. We will do our best to ensure a positive experience for everyone, but cannot guarantee the good behavior of pool staff. We are also asking about swimwear rules and regulations to ensure the experience can be as body-positive and -affirming as possible. We'll update when we have more info. ****There will be no speakers, no performances, and no event sponsors***** *************************************************************** WHERE: Banneker (Howard University) Pool--Look for the trans flag! 2500 Georgia Ave NW, Washington, DC 20001 WHEN: 12PM-5PM, Saturday, July 1, 2017 COST: Free for D.C. residents with ID, $7 otherwise WHAT TO BRING: your coolers, pool wear, and any trans pride flags or other visibility are encouraged but not necessary. Food: Banneker DOES have a concession stand, and there's lots of other restaurants and fast food places in walking distance. Sadly, Banneker does not allow outside food or drinks. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING POOL TIPS: -DC pools do not allow alcohol -DC pools do not allow smoking -DC pools do not permit amplified music. However, small bluetooth devices are probably OK. -There will be no food or beverage provided, please bring snacks etc. with you & your groups -There are gendered bathrooms and a "family restroom" please be mindful and use the buddy system when accessing -In general, since there will be about a lot of us, let's just keep an eye out for one another If you want to contribute, you can bring the following to share: -water -sunscreen -trans pride flags -any other pool party materials you would be willing to share
