André is an oral historian, educator, filmmaker, and community organizer based in Chicago. His passion is empowering marginalized communities through media production, leadership development, and creating platforms to share underrepresented stories. He is currently at work on America In Transition, a documentary series that takes a look at social change from the perspective of transgender people in marginalized communities.
He is in Washington DC serving as Docs In Progress' 2017 Filmmaker-in-Residence, a program made possible through support from the National Endowment for the Arts. While at Docs In Progress, André is editing a new episode from the series; will give a workshop on participatory storytelling; and will present this screening to the public. The residency is covering travel and honoraria. Any donations made to this event are completely voluntary, but will help cost-share these expenses, as well as the rental of space for tonight's screening.
