All over the world, across cultures and countries,
children learn the same basic lessons:
“be kind,”
“tell the truth,”
“be fair,”
“respect everyone,”
“treat others the way you want to be treated,”
“don’t touch others if they don’t want to be touched.”
At the Children's Rally for Kindness on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 10 am, we will call on President-Elect Donald Trump to remember these lessons as he prepares to take office and implement policies that will affect the lives of children and families across our diverse nation.
We will urge the President-Elect to adopt policies that build a better, fairer future, take care of the world that we will leave for our children, and respect all people regardless of their culture, religion, race, socio-economic status, gender, or sexual orientation.
Every election is about our children’s future, and this election has made many of us particularly apprehensive, since what we are hearing from Mr. Trump does not reflect our values. We are concerned about the effects of such hateful rhetoric itself and how what he has been saying will play out in his policies.
This family-friendly rally is a concrete way to make our voices heard. We are channeling the apprehension and fear that many of us are feeling and/or are sensing from our children into direct collective action. We will let our leaders know that we want a commitment to fairness from all of them, especially the President-Elect, and that we will hold our leaders responsible for what they say and do going forward.
Please join us at the Children’s Rally for Kindness on Saturday, December 10th, 2016 at 10am. The family-friendly rally will take place outside the Trump Hotel at 1100 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC and is being led by the Takoma Parents Action Coalition. All parents, friends of children, and those who care about our children’s future are invited to join.

Takoma Parents Action Coalition is a group of parents located in the Takoma DC/MD area and its surrounding communities. We are a community of families dedicated to improving our community and our country by participating in and modeling activism and community-building for our children. We aim to channel our fear, anger, and anxiety into specific, concrete actions to advocate for justice locally, nationally, and globally. Rather than separating our parenting from our politics, we leverage the skills and wisdom we’ve developed as caregivers to resist oppression, build connections and alliances, and support our families and our neighbors.
