Sharing Your Story for Advocacy, Activism, and Social Change
Join Rebecca Kling, Community Storytelling Advocate at the National Center for Transgender Equality, for a workshop on how to tell your story to support transgender rights. This workshop will go over a simple 4-step format, using experieneces from your life to talk about why supporting the transgender community is so important.
Keeping Yourself Safe: Strategies and Best Practices
Sex Workers face high rates of violence from clients, intimate partners, managers, and the police. HIPS will host a workshop to share so best practices for keeping ourselves safe when engaged in sex work. In addition, HIPS will talk about our Bad Date Sheet and the importance of reportunig incidents to protect our community's safety.
Transgender Wellness and What It Should Look Like
Join Dee Curry and Gibby Thomas for an exploration of transgender wellness.
Health Care Planning for Trans Clients
Whitman-Walker Health Legal Services staff will discuss various health care planning concerns, such as: signing up for health insurance, accessing respectful care, and the importance of health planning documents to protect transgender people’s identity, treatment choices, and end-of-life decisions.
Name/Gender Change Process
Whitman-Walker Legal Services staff will discuss how to obtain a court-ordered name change in DC/MD/VA and how to update all identity documents including birth certificates, passports, licenses, ID cards, insurance and Social Security records, etc.
Immigration Basics for Trans Clients
Whitman-Walker Legal Services staff will discuss immigration options for transgender individuals including asylum, family-based petitions, travel documents, naturalization, adjustment to LPR status, etc.
