This year's Literature Colloquium is about Zadie Smith's WHITE TEETH. Winner of numerous awards, this epic and humorous debut novel from 2000 follows two families in London as they confront issues of race, immigration and religion that still resonate today. The day's event will include breakfast and lunch, along with speakers by undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and alumni.
Students may sign up for a single-credit independent study by either giving a paper at the en event or writing a paper based on the day's activities.
Contact Professor Middents at middents@american.edu for more information about attending -- or even presenting at the event! Everyone is invited!
