"Sam(ira) Obeid is a queer activist/poet/scholar based in Tampa, Florida. She is Indian born and raised, and moved to the United States in 2007. Sam began her poetry career in 2012 and moved on to the national slam scene in 2015 at the Women of the World Poetry Slam, where she took 5th place on final stage. Since then, she has returned to Women of the World in 2016 and placed 8th at Southern Fried 2016 with the Speak Tank Slam Team. Sam also hosts her own queer open mic night at a local barbershop where poets and open micers in the Tampa Bay area can find a safe space to express themselves and engage in open conversation.
Her work speaks to the tensions of intersectionality, queer identity, immigration and love.
Off stage, Sam works in the area of youth development and empowerment. She is a full-time canine parent, fashion addict and culinary enthusiast."
We welcome all spoken word and aocustic musical acts.
You do not need to identify as queer but please refrain from transphobic, homophobic and misogynistic work as we are a Trans and Queer Positive Space.
