Queering Afrofuturism

A Workshop with Imani Sims. Afrofuturism is the act of projecting the african american aesthetic into the future and exploring technological advancement on black culture. Artists like Octavia Butler, Janelle Monae, and Outkast have taken on themes of afrofuturism and produced amazing works of art. This workshop will focus on the works of afrofuturist artists and we will generate queer afrofuturist art as a way to explore themes of technology, gender, sexuality, race, and the environment.
