Recreating a literary tradition that began in the late 1800s when the homes of John Hay and Henry Adams were the center of Washington's intellectual and social gatherings, The Hay-Adams Author Series hosts outstanding writers in a magnificent setting with great food and drink and lively conversation.
On September 23rd, 2016, Hans Bruland is delighted to invite you to a luncheon with Jon Meacham for a presentation and signing of his latest work Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush.
Jon Meacham is executive editor and executive vice president at Random House, as well as a contributing editor to Time magazine and a commentator on politics, history, and religious faith in America. He won the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Biography for American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House.
Meacham also wrote Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power (2012), which appeared on many publications' year-end lists of the best nonfiction.
His newest book, Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush, raises the question whether everything about George H.W. Bush is outdated or whether he is a model the party and its president should return toβa noble kind of restraint in foreign policy based on diplomacy and a prudence in domestic affairs.
Jon Ellis Meacham was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he spent his high school years living with his grandfather, who gave Meacham his interest in history, literature, and politics. He graduated summa cum laude with a degree in English Literature from University of the South in Tennessee. Aside from his highly successful writing career, Jon Meacham is a dedicated husband and father.
