About the Performers:
Strictly Vocals was founded in DC in 2010 and began as an a cappella group of 9 men, half of whom sang in college, together. Originally singing songs across a broad musical spectrum from barbershop quartet to modern R&B, Strictly Vocals has found its voice over the years in the styles of gospel quartet, vocal jazz, sacred music, 50's doo-wop, and much more. Singing for fundraisers, weddings, church services, funerals, special events, ceremonies, and annual Valentine's Day singing telegrams, the Strictly Vocals sextet continues to expand its repertory now daring to experiment with circle songs, vocal percussion, and latin a cappella music. Regardless of the musical style or event, they always sing with purpose and to touch the lives of others from the starting note to the last.
SongRise is DC's all female social justice a cappella group! Our goal is use our musical talents to inspire social justice action. To date, we've performed at over 100 events in the DC region from community festivals, art showcases and civil rights celebrations, to nonprofit fundraisers, national rallies and capitol hill events. Our group was conceived in 2008 on a shuttle to the DC Metro when founders Sarah Beller and Laura Honeywood started harmonizing to Sweet Honey in the Rock's "Ella's Song" after a Social Justice Open Mic event. Since then we have evolved into a diverse group of 14 singers of all backgrounds who are passionate about making change in our community and around the world.
