QUICK IMPORTANT EDIT: We are moving the tour INDOORS to a VIRTUAL DOWNTOWN WALKING TOUR because of the number of people who have said they are going. Additionally, we have added to the virtual tour short excerpts from the upcoming DC Punk documentary "Punk the Capital" to help instigate storytelling from the audience!!
As part of the first anniversary of the DC Punk Archive at DC Public Library, Cynthia Connolly, the publisher and one of the authors of Banned in DC: Photos and Anecdotes of the DC Punk Underground, 79-85, will have a book signing of the new edition of the book (with a new 8-page Afterword) and brief tour of significant locations for the punk scene in downtown DC -- just blocks from the library. People involved in the DC punk scene as well as intrigued fans are invited for the tour. She, along with the staff at the DC Punk Archive, will visit five downtown locations shown in the book. At each location, you are welcome to share additional anecdotes that never made it into the book. These stories will be recorded and placed in the archive with the book as a preservation of the DC punk community.
Locations in NW will include:
9:30 Club at 930 F Street
dc space at 7th and E Streets
Lansburgh Center at 7th Street between D and E Streets Lonestar Beefhouse on 9th between E and F Streets
Oscar's Eye at 9th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.
Afterwords, come back to the library for a book signing with Connolly.
We will start and end the tour in the Great Hall at Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library, 901 G Street, NW Washington, DC 20001. The tour will depart at 2pm
