Join us at The DC Center for the LGBT Community (2000 14th Street NW, Suite 105) on Saturday, July 25th at 12PM to hear Shannon Gilreath read from and discuss his current and most recent work.
His current work centers on combating HIV criminalization statutes and the stigma they entail. Gilreath argues that HIV criminalization statutes are, in fact, unconstitutional and should be eliminated. His forthcoming book, 'After Marriage: An Agenda for Action', contains this argument and many more.
HIs most recent book is 'The End of Straight Supremacy: Realizing Gay Liberation'. This book tackles such difficult issues as gay pornography, transgenderism, and a gay-centric argument against same-sex marriage. In the same book, Gilreath forecasts the "religious conscience" movement as the next major battlefield (nearly five years before the Indiana controversy).
Shannon Gilreath is professor of law and professor of women's, gender, and sexuality studies at Wake Forest University. Gilreath consulted with the Obama administration for the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and he has written antidiscrimination legislation for various jurisdictions across the nation.
