Working on the seas and rivers of Central Asia and South America in merchant ships, Smudge made his way to the states. As a product of the 80's and a passionate fan of music from all genres, Smudge started collecting records in his early teens. He was later spotted living and spinning in the Maryland and Washington DC area. It's been close to two decades since Smudge first blessed the decks for a crowd at an ESA event in Baltimore MD. Known well in the underground scene and building a reputation for often spinning everything under the sun... From old school Hip-hop to banging House music, from Soul to Dancehall, from Funk to Rock, including gems from the 70's and 80's 90s & 00s, Disco, Electro and more. Influenced by some of the greats, Dj Smudge thanks Ron Hardy, Larry Levan, Mr.Scruff, K-Swift, Sam "the man" Burns and Fantastic Plastic Machine to name a few. Dj Smudge has taken his music far past those early days of mosquito bites and crocodile wrestling in the swamplands. Recent visits to NYC, Seattle, London, San Francisco, Baltimore, Chicago, San Diego, LA, Portland and Phoenix as well as multiple trips to hot spots in Japan have all further secured Smudge a properly positioned place in the underground Dj circuit as a well respected "jack of all trades" and a "keeper of the funk". In the summer of 2007 Smudge met up with Soohan and formed the production duo NiteCourt. Since then he has been featured on several bigtime blogs including Discobelle, Bigstereo and Palmsout Sound. Although he and Soohan have since parted ways, Smudge remains dedicated to the eventual goal of releasing original tracks and has been working with the great Harry Dixon in the studio as of late putting out 8 rock edits and a few originals. He currently holds residence's at W Hotel, Daikaya, Marvin, Velvet Lounge, Dodge City, Black Whiskey, Smith Public Trust and Cafe St Ex. Besides this Smudge has spun all over DC from Black Cat to Jimmy Valentines, from Little Miss Whiskeys to Wonderland Ballroom. He held down a 4 year weekly residency at 18th St Lounge from 2010 to 2014. Also Smudge makes frequent trips to Baltimore, Chicago and San Diego, his "home away from home". Smudge has been lucky enough to play alongside or in support of many of todays hottest international talents including the legendary Tony Humphries, Arthur Baker, John Morales, Joey Negro, Peter Kruder, Dam Funk, Chris Coco, Goldroom, Klingande, Penguin Prison, !!!, Bit Funk, Treasure Fingers, Moullinex, The Dø, Chris De Luca, Mazi, Rich Medina, KON, Scottie B, Dj Fashen, Tittsworth, Nite Jewel, Chairlift, Dave Nada, DJ Trotter, Michael Serafini, Rampage, Whiskey Barons, Bastard Jazz, Uproot Andy, Shakedown DJs, Maddjazz, Gaslamp Killer, Ursula 1000, Monkey Safari, Krames, Ewun, Thee Mike B, Shunda K, Roxy Cottontail, Jonny Blaze, Computer Magic, Young Love, US Royalty, Ian Svenonius and his good buddy Thomas Blondet.
