Love Ain’t a Crime: Swiss film "The Circle" & Panel Discussion
Der Kreis (The Circle) - (2014, dir. Stefan Haupt, 102 minutes, In German with English Subtitles)
Zürich in the mid 50‘s: The young shy teacher Ernst Ostertag becomes a member of the gay organisation DER KREIS. There he gets to know the drag queen Röbi Rapp – and immediately falls head over heels in love with him.
Ernst finds himself torn between his bourgeois existence and his commitment to his identity and his organization. For Röbi it is about his first serious love relationship. A relationship which will last a lifetime.
The film follows Röbi and Ernst as they live through the high point and the eventual decline of the organization, which is seen throughout Europe as the pioneer of gay emancipation. While the repression against LGBT people became increasingly more intense in Zürich, two young and very different men fight for their love and – together with their friends – for equality.
Followed by a discussion about past and future LGBT challenges, and a reception. Panel members to be announced.
FREE and open to the public.
