ZAMI at Busboys and Poets presents an evening of music by multi-creative D.C. native Be Steadwell *** Full menu + bar available throughout the performance *** Be Steadwell is a songwriter and filmmaker from Washington, DC. Redefining the love song in a modern context-Be's unapologetic content focuses on love between women. Be's playful lyrics and soulful voice will make you cry one moment, then laugh the next. In her live performances, she utilizes loop pedal vocal layering and beat boxing to compose her songs on stage. Be has performed at the Apollo Music Cafe (2014), toured internationally with the Revival tours (2013 and 2014), performed at Toshi Reagon's "Word Rock & Sword Festival" (2013-2014) and composed music for the feature film "Stud Life" (2013). Be completed an MFA in film from Howard University and is currently touring and screening her film Vow of Silence (2014) internationally. *** Also featuring an original choreographed dance by Denasha to Be Steadwell's music A native Washington, Denasha a.k.a Gypsy prides herself on fusing classic belly dance moves with sexy twerk and hip hop techniques she learned growing up in our Nation's Capitol. Since college she’s performed at the Black Cat with Brown Girls Burlesque where she made her cabaret debut, and has since become a proud member of Chocolate City Burlesque and Cabaret. Denasha has danced all over DC for special events and celebrations. You can catch her go-go dancing at L'Enfant Cafe's La Boom Boom Room or belly dancing at SAX Restaurant and Lounge.
