Protection of the LGBTI Refugees and Asylum Seekers

Around the world, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Tarnsgender, and Intersex (LGBTI) people face severe discrimination. In close to eighty countries, consensual same-sex activities between adults is against the law, and in many more, the protection of LGBTI rights is restricted. Targeted harassment and violence by family members, community leaders, and public officials force many LGBTI people to flee their homes becoming refugees. Please join us for a roundtable with refugees, government agencies, NGOs and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to discuss ways to advance the rights and increase protection of LGBTI refugees and asylum seekers in the U.S. Guest of Honor : Congressman David Cecilline of the Rhode Island First District and Co-Chair, Congressional LGBT Equity Caucus.
