Here are some reasons why your support is needed.
3,000 - 6,000 local youth are forced from their homes at some point each year.
1,800 - 2,400 estimated to be LGBTQ youth (about 46%).
8 beds at the Wanda Alston House
30 or more youth on the waiting list at any given time
0 beds for emergency shelter that are LGBTQ safe
We invite you to make a donation as we work hard to expand our services and programs. We are currently exploring options for opening a second facility to serve as emergency shelter. Help us fill the gap.
LGBTQ youth that have entered into the existing city shelters have often reported cases in which they are met with discrimination and harassment at best; abuse, assault or rape at worst. Part of our mission is to provide safe spaces for LGBTQ youth in this area who are in need of shelter.
