Capital Awards Ball: In Loving Memory

Over the course of our ballroom history we have lost numerous individuals who have contributed mightily to the success and growth of ballroom. Their wisdom, talents and creativity helped shape and mold not just a ballroom community but many of us into the men and women we are today. The Capital Awards: In Loving Memory will allow us the opportunity to have good, old fashioned, competitive fun where there won't be any division by status and a chance for the best of the best to battle in their respective categories while remembering and reflecting. Various fallen individuals have been mentioned in reference to the categories for the ball that night and were randomly chosen. There is no slight to anyone not mentioned as we collectively treasure those that we have lost to violence, health related issues, accidents and natural causes. The Capital Awards annually recognizes the achievements of the houses and individuals who have competed in the DMV (District, Maryland and Virginia) area with an awards ceremony followed by the actual ball. Beginner's Category Face, Runway, Performance, Sex Siren In order to walk one of the aforementioned categories you must have a house parent, statement, legend or icon walk you out to introduce you for the category! Please don't embarrass yourself or the individual sponsoring you. Your look should embrace ballroom creativity. Performance Vogue Fem – has always produced great performers of many different styles that hailed from near and far. MYSTERY MYSTERIOUS DIOR'E built the mystique of his name early in his career as a masked performer battling competition with his face concealed. Tonight you will do the same! Will the legends hit the floor or is your face what's really helping you to victory? Ready, set battle! ** Gold Lottery Category ** Realness with a Twist – is as much about the realness as it is about the twist. In the early years of the category guys like BEN SUPREME, TONY “MUSTARD” CHANEL and CHARLES EVISU were real and could twist! Unfortunately too many ball hosts have twisted the category but tonight we are going to get it straight! On this night you must be a RWT legend, have won a RWT OTY award at a credible awards ball or at least have a realness trophy in order to walk this category. We will be asking for proof so be ready! Will you be a contender or left on the sidelines with the pretenders? ** Gold Lottery Category ** Pop, Dip & Spin – lost two of its most prolific figures over the course of the last year in CABBAGE EBONY and TERRELL EBONY GARCON. Create your own look and evoke memories of these great performers with a classic old way performance that would make both of them proud! Please remember Cabbage was a shady lady so make sure the performance is on point! Female Figure Performance (3 trophies) – diva ALLOURA was definitely one of the greatest performers in the history of ballroom! Her greatness wasn't solely based off her performance but her ability to bring the best out of the competition. Alloura's performances always woke the building up and on this night we ask that you do the same! Ladies please no half stepping as you truly show your honor and respect for the great Alloura! New Way – has always been one of the most captivating styles of vogue the ballroom has ever seen. One can't mention the new way without mentioning the great WILLI NINJA. His precision and control was second to none. Bring the better days of the new way alive and show us what we've been missing! COMMENTATOR vs. COMMENTATOR – has always been a hot category whether it was ERIC BAZAAR or the vogue fem diva PAUL KHAN GIVENCHY on the microphone. On this night bring us your hottest chant and let’s see the real commentators go at it in the name of the aforementioned individuals. Runway BQ European – runway according to the Walking Wonders has started to focus too much on the effects and not enough attention is being paid to the walk. Tonight in honor of the great walkers of the past such as PATRICK EBONY, RANDY MIYAKE-MUGLER, MIKEY MILAN and many more we are going to focus on the walk. In only a white tee shirt, jeans and shoe/boot whose walk will define them as the greatest walker of this generation. Which legend is bold enough to battle the new jacks? Who will come out of retirement to avenge a loss from the past? Which student will send their teacher into retirement? The aforementioned people used to make us know it can you? Final Winner Battle All American for ** Gold Lottery Category ** All American – legend TWAN MIYAKE-MUGLER was known for being one of the more effective All Americans of his generation. At one of Eric Bazaar's legendary Easter Sunday balls he rocked a hot cowboy effect. In his honor bring your fashionable cowboy look to the floor. Now who is going to round up the competition and burn them at the stake? Final Winner Battle European for ** Gold Lottery Category ** FF Runway – legendary diva ISSYS ESCADA upset the Oh'Kentuckiana Awards Ball in '06 with a Tina Turner inspired look! Allow your creative juices to flow and create a Tina Turner inspired look of your own as you send the rest of these ladies rolling on the river! ** Silver Lottery Category ** Fashion Best Dressed Spectator – has been walked by many individuals and one of the most memorable was JERMAINE MIZRAHI. Unlike many what Jermaine walked in was what he wore to the ball, no changing into something else. In honor of Jermaine best dressed spectator could be called at anytime on this night SO BE READY! BQ Labels – was once one of the hottest categories in ballroom. At the center of the category were the unstoppable Houses Montana, Milan, Prada and Allure. Among some of the most memorable individuals to walk the category were CHRISSY MONTANA and CLETO MILAN. We ask the label villains of ballroom to make this category hot again for one night only with the hottest pieces you have in your closet. No new pieces are required just show the new kids what the category is all about while reminding your competition they didn’t want a day back then and definitely don’t want it now! ** Silver Lottery Category ** FF Best Dressed – Over the years this community has attended way too many funerals and memorial services. Through them all fashion divas have always stood out upstaging the next girl. Let us see you done for no reason just dressed for the season. Foot & Eye – has been won by many individuals but the first person I ever saw to win this category was OTIS GIGLI from Philadelphia. Spring is here and the sun is a blaze. Show us what the Spring/Summer 2014 collections have to offer! Are you up to the task or can you only get the discontinued items? Urban Street Wear – at its finest will be featured in the 2014 remake of Bones, Thugs & Harmony Tha’ Crossroads video. Your look should be hot enough to make them relevant again! Are you up to the task? Sex & Body FQ Sex Siren – Ballroom saw one of its most epic battles of all time at the 1998 NY Awards Ball which was actually held in NJ. Old school vs. new school, North vs. South as the iconic DANIELLE REVLON and Raquell Miyake-Mugler Balenciaga put on a battle for the ages in all gold. Ladies Danielle was always classy in how she brought it! Can you do the same in all gold! ** Gold Lottery Category ** BQ Sex Siren (3 trophies) – favorite LEON MUGLER KHAN started his ballroom career walking school boy realness before evolving into one of the most dominating sex sirens. On this night we want to see the sex sirens peel from a school boy effect into your sex siren attire. School the competition in honor of Leon. ** Silver Lottery Category ** FQ Body (Model’s vs. Luscious) – saw the lovely SHANESE MILAN take home many trophies as she was the epitome of what body was all about. Showcase your body ladies in spring colors. BQ Body (Model’s vs. Muscular) – in all white as we pay homage at Capital Awards: In Loving Memory. Distinguished Gentleman - very similar to the Classic Man category back in the day, show this generation what a distinguished gentleman truly is! The creativity is up to you. Realness Thug – RASHAD EBONY of Atlanta didn't care who was in line to battle whether icons, legends, statements or stars he feared no competition. Rashad knew that to truly become a legend you had to beat the legends. He knew if you were on top you had to beat back the new challengers to show you deserved to remain on top! Tonight in honor of this man's fearless commitment bring it the old fashioned way and earn it! Who will reign supreme? (Winner battles PB, SB & Exec. for Silver Lottery) Pretty Boy – PJ KARAN was one of the hottest pretty boy realness kids of his generation and Philly's first pretty boy. His life was cut short too soon in an accident. On this night honor this man's pretty boy realness legacy and love of motorcycles in biking attire. (Winner battles Thug, SB & Exec for Silver Lottery) School Boy – at the Capital Awards last year consisted of the highly entertaining Ultimate Cadet Challenge where school boys drew cards at the beginning of each battle to determine which aspect of their school boy realness elude the judges would be scoring. They were judged on anything from their props, realness, knowledge or ability and this year will be the same. Last year called for a standardized look but this year the attire is up to the individual. SHORTY MUGLER a school boy from the area was always a well dressed school boy, so you will be too. There will be a cash bonus round in his honor for the school boy with the hottest attire on. (Winners battle Thug, PB & Exec for Silver Lottery) Executive – realness was showcased in the documentary PARIS IS BURNING and has been replicated time and time again by individuals like MOZELLE GIVENCHY MIZRAHI and many others who emulated the bosses of the corporate world. Let's flip this and have you showcase the leaders of the underworld the pimps, drug lords and other crime bosses that plague our society. (Winner battles Thug, PB & SB for Silver Lottery) FQ Realness – divas from the 90s TRACY and PUFFY EBONY would upset Crystal Skating Rink here in the DC area commanding all the guys attention and drawing the frustration of the jealous girls every time they stepped in the building. Can you wreak the same havoc? Let's see you ready for the skate party, think Beyonce's Blow video. ** Silver Lottery Category ** BQD Realness – was very simply defined by one of the matriarchs of the ballroom scene PARIS DUPREE in the documentary Paris is Burning. We are looking for a butch queen up in drag, a boy that can transform at will to be a female figure. Bring us a 2014 photograph; it may be on a phone, of yourself as a boy while you have the judges’ panel in awe at your transformation. The burden of proof lies on you to prove the picture is from 2014. ** Silver Lottery Category ** Butch Realness – hit the floor and get on the mic paying homage to any fallen member of the ballroom community. Transman – the ballroom is mourning the loss of one of our brothers, CARLOS X MILAN, from DC who was laid to rest 2/18/14. Collectively the community lit candles to mourn his loss and on this night we ask you to hit the runway with a lit candle to show Carlos that his light still shines in our heart! ** Silver Lottery Category ** Face BQ Face – icon TONY MILAN mastered the art of selling face at a young age and it was the catalyst of his ballroom career. Tony not only sold it, he knew how to throw shade and had face. At the 1997 NY Awards Ball he had a larger-than-life battle with another icon Whitney Mugler Garcon in a category for just those two individuals. However their teachings ran deep into the regular BQ face category as numerous butch queens lined up creating an epic showdown. On this night in all black can we see the legends, the over 30s and the new generation possessing the art of selling it, classic shade and most importantly face. ** Gold Lottery Category ** FQ Face – for decades measured the success of a girl in ballroom by how she fared verse OCTAVIA ST. LAURENT MIZRAHI. Possessing one of the most lovely, striking faces in the history of ballroom, Octavia always brought charisma and poise to the floor in a look that brought the audience to their feet. There will never be another but on this night we ask that you honor her legacy by emulating what she brought us night after night! ** $100 for every girl that gets 10s up to $1000 ** BQD Face – is about the art of makeup transforming a male into a strikingly beautiful female. Too often the artwork goes unappreciated. PRINCESS JANAE MIZRAHI MUGLER was a master at putting it all together. Honor her legacy in a hot springtime look with the face totally beat. We want to see the full package and you make us remember your name! WOMAN’S FACE – has always showcased the angelic beauties of ballroom. In all white show us that you are beautiful enough to be remembered as the angel of the Capital Awards: In Loving Memory. There are two lotteries at the Capital Awards, Gold and Silver. The Gold Lottery consists of 5 categories European Winner vs. American Winner, Vogue Fem, RWT, BQ Face and FQ Sex Siren. The winners of these respective categories will draw an envelope containing either $1000, $500, $250, $100 or $50. The Silver Lottery consists of 7 categories FF Runway, BQ Labels, BQ Sex Siren Overall Winner, BQ Realness Overall Winner, FQ Realness, BQD Realness and Transman. The winners of the respective categories will draw an envelope containing either $500, $250, $250, $100, $100, $50 or $50. FQ Face is not a lottery category but for every girl that gets 10s in accordance with what the category calls for $100 will be added to the pot up to $1000.
