SMYAL is the premier Washington, DC metro area service organization solely dedicated to supporting LGBTQ youth. SMYAL's mission is to support and empower lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth in the Washington, DC metropolitan region. Through youth leadership, SMYAL creates opportunities for LGBTQ youth to build self-confidence, develop critical life skills, and engage their peers and community through service and advocacy. Committed to social change, SMYAL builds, sustains and advocates for programs, policies and services that LGBTQ youth need as they grow into adulthood. Music donated by DJ Say What? *** WHAT IS SCARLET'S BAKE SALE? *** Normally held at the DC Eagle, Scarlet’s Bake Sale was started in 1971 to raise money for Children’s Organizations until, after a number of years, they refused to take any more money from the group. It was after that time that the group decided to donate the proceeds from the event to various charities, as the needs were known. Those charities include such groups as Food & Friends, Brother Help Thyself, Joseph’s House, Miriam’s House, House of Ruth, Moveable Feast (Baltimore), The Mautner Project, EMMAUS, Pediatric AIDS, Pets DC, GLOV, and more.
