Bisexuals are often perceived as straight or gay based on their relationship status. In response to the prejudice and marginalization they receive from both the straight and LGBT communities, many bisexuals are made to feel, and/or opt to remain, invisible.
Washington DC’s first official Bi Pride Day aims to raise awareness about bisexuality in the metro area; to educate the community about bisexual issues; and to encourage bisexual people and those who love them to come out about bisexual visibility.
A representative from Mayor Gray’s office will deliver a special proclamation for the city’s “Celebrate Bisexuality Day” at a gathering on Monday, September 23, 2013. The program will include a panel discussion with two elders of the DC bisexual community, ABilly Jones-Hennin and Sabrina Sojourner. It takes place between 6:30 and 8:00pm at:

Bi Pride Day is sponsored by the DC Center, as well as by Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE) of Metro DC and AMBi (the Alliance of Multicultural Bisexuals).
