About the Task Force:
We are the uncompromising national voice for full LGBT equality.
The Task Force creates change by building LGBT political power from the ground up.
We bolster the strength of local LGBT activism in rural enclaves, small towns and cities nationwide. We build grassroots political muscle at every level by training activists, strengthening the infrastructure of local and state allies and organizing broad-based campaigns creating public support for full equality of LGBT people. Learn more about our Organizing & Training and Movement Building efforts.
The Task Force is propelling LGBT concerns from the margin to the center.
We refuse to let our community’s concerns be shoved aside. Using smarts honed by three decades of front-line experience, we’re developing political strategy to secure our rights at all levels.
Our Public Policy & Government Affairs department is strengthening our community’s voice in Washington by leveraging government resources to meet our community’s pressing health and human service needs and driving for comprehensive equal rights legislation.
We won’t rest until LGBT people attain total equality and truly are full participants in our democracy.
The Task Force connects community to create change.
Our Creating Change Conference, the nation’s preeminent LGBT organizing conference, attracts 2,000-plus attendees annually to develop skills and strategize for LGBT equality. And you’ll always find the Task Force working shoulder to shoulder with activists in local communities across the country. We know winning is possible when our community connects.
The Task Force challenges assumptions head on.
Our Policy Institute, our movement’s premier think tank on LGBT issues, provides rapid-response research to counter the extremist messages generated by the right wing. We offer reliable, accurate research and groundbreaking policy analysis to create change and advance our full equality.
When it comes to LGBT rights, the Task Force doesn’t waver.
When we see discrimination, we call it by its name — and do something about it. No ifs, ands or buts: Discrimination is immoral.
Join with us to create the change that will lead to full equality. Together, winning is not only possible — it’s inevitable.
A bit more about us:
The mission of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force is to build the power of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community from the ground up. We do this by training activists, organizing broad-based campaigns to defeat anti-LGBT referenda and advance pro-LGBT legislation, and by building the organizational capacity of our movement. Our Policy Institute, the movement’s premier think tank, provides research and policy analysis to support the struggle for complete equality and to counter right-wing lies. As part of a broader social justice movement, we work to create a nation that respects the diversity of human expression and identity and creates opportunity for all.
The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force Action Fund, founded in 1973 and incorporated in 1974, works to build the grassroots political power of the LGBT community to win complete equality. We do this through direct and grassroots lobbying to defeat anti-LGBT ballot initiatives and legislation and pass pro-LGBT legislation and other measures. We also analyze and report on the positions of candidates for public office on issues of importance to the LGBT community. NGLTF, Inc., is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit corporation incorporated in New York. Contributions to the Task Force Action Fund are not tax-deductible.
